Harvesting Fruit from Your Own Garden – Here’s How!

In our increasingly paved living environments, the need for nature experiences is growing, and ecological awareness is accelerating. Eating local food—ideally from your own garden—fits perfectly with this trend. Out with the tiles, in with the fruit trees! But is it really that simple? According to green consultant Marie-Ange Eneman, it’s not rocket science. In the article The Rise of the Fruit Tree (published in the CG Concept Yearbook 2023), she shares some key considerations for anyone wanting to start a fruit garden, such as:

“It all depends on several criteria which trees are suitable for a particular garden, rooftop garden, or public space,” she explains in the article, while also offering tips for some more unusual species. She also encourages planting fruit trees in public spaces. “Fruit trees create connections between people in the neighborhood. They benefit residents while enriching populations of animals, insects, and birds. The result is a better living environment for both people and nature.”
