Multifunctional use of space will only increase in the future—and with it, the interest in rooftop gardens. A rooftop garden adds significant value to a building. In the new exclusive edition of ArchitectenPunt Exclusief, under the category Roofs, you can read all about how the next-level rooftop garden at the Ebben Inspyrium was created: the vision, spatial design, planting, water management, and the latest developments in the world of rooftops.
Victor Dijkshoorn of VIC Landscapes and Marie-Ange Eneman, planting consultant at Ebben Nurseries, collaborated to design a next-level rooftop garden. Their challenge: to create a multifunctional garden that offers green experiences all year round. The goal was a unique rooftop garden ahead of its time in terms of usability and sustainability. The Nophadrain roofing system—with excellent drainage, minimal thickness, high strength, and load-bearing capacity—played a crucial role. The result is an inspiring rooftop garden that demonstrates the power of greenery and, not coincidentally, won the Rooftop Award 2022.
Multifunctional rooftop gardens will only continue to grow in popularity. They offer future generations the chance to live and thrive with greenery in increasingly urban environments. Choosing the right plants is crucial, however—not every tree is suitable for rooftop planting.
